# Reporting

> Who a worker reports to on the chart, and who it takes a question to when it needs a person.

## Reports to

A worker sits on the Company chart like a person. You choose who it reports to when you create it (**Reports to** in the wizard, with *Nobody — leave them off the chart* as an option), and you can move it later by dragging on the chart or from its card's **Move…**. See [Chart](https://www.ergoly.ai/docs/company/chart).

## Who it asks

When a worker needs a person, it takes the question to its **escalation assignee**. By default that is worked out from the chart: the nearest person above the worker that it can message. If the chart names nobody, it is the person who created the worker.

To pick someone else without changing the chart, open the worker's **Settings** tab, find **Escalation assignee**, and choose a person under **Set the assignee**. The card's *In force right now* line always says who it is and why: *set here*, *from the org chart*, or *its creator*. **Clear** goes back to the chart.

> **Worth knowing.** Escalation is for questions, not approvals. Approvals go to whoever the worker was told to ask, with buttons in the thread. See [Approvals](https://www.ergoly.ai/docs/work/approvals).
